Elska started brewing mead before ever discovering the SCA, about 2012-2013. As hobby homesteaders, her husband and herself have ample access to quality fruits and vegetables and fermenting some of them seemed to be the next thing to do (how many jars of jam does one household need...). As European immigrants they brought their tastes and interests with them and quickly started growing European style fruits like currants, gooseberries and elderberries - the same fruits used in medieval times. For the past four seasons they have also tried their hands at beekeeping, but after losing their hives two seasons in a row they are patiently waiting to catch another swarm to pollinate their gardens and orchard - and put up more honey for her stash of meads.
