Competition Corner

In this space, we have collected several valuable assets to assist Guild members with organizing, running, and judging SCA brewing competitions. We also have materials available to assist entrants with organizing their entries for ease of entry. If you have any documents, tools, or guidelines relevant to competing in general A&S or brewing-specific competitions, please contact the web minister to have your contributions added to the site.

  • Brewing Competition Checklist: THL Elska's easy to read checklist of the major concerns in planning for and following up after a brewing competition.

  • Competition Entry Form: Want to have your competitors pre-register so you can better plan for the judging? Want to ensure you are tracking every entry at the site? Have competitors fill out this entry form and forward it to you. The sections on ingredients and primary/secondary sources allow an entrant to summarize their documentation for the judges.

You can download an editable Word document version here.

  • How to Organize an Ęthelmearc Brewing Competition: THL Madoc's class notes on how to organize and run a brewing competition.

  • Judging Brewing in Ęthelmearc: THL Madoc's class notes on how to judge brewing in the SCA.

  • Sixty-Point Brew Judging Rubric: Ten point scale with six categories, this rubric is most familiar to those who have entered Ice Dragon in the past. It has also been used at Bacon & Brewing Bash.

  • Sixty-Point Score Sheet: For use with the Sixty-Point rubric above, this score sheet also includes a tally of various flavors and off-flavors and the causes for use by the judges in providing feedback to the entrant.
