It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the passing of THL Wolfgang Starcke on January 26th, 2018. Wolfgang was an avid brewer and a great advocate for this Guild as well as inter-kingdom brewing and vintning activities. He served off and on as a Region 4 representative as well as the head of the Guild from 2014 to 2017. For many years, he was the organizer for the hospitality bar at the AE party at Pennsic, and the coordinator for the inter-kingdom brewers meet-and-greet. As the autocrat for Ice Dragon, he took great pains to ensure that the event site enabled brewers to participate in the A&S competition. He was a great friend and he will be missed.
Showcase: Prepare now for Countess Anna Leigh's Great Beverage Showcase and Social to be held the Friday night of War Practice. Follow the link for details, and check back often as new information is released.

Points for Participation: A new program designed to encourage participation in brewing activities throughout the kingdom. Check out the details at our participation page.

Events
We endeavor to keep up a certain level of activity throughout the Kingdom. Below are a few events where we will be having brewing-related classes, meetings, competitions and other various activities:

Feb 17-18, 2018 AEdult Swim AEdult Swim is adding an A&S component this year. This is a two-day event at a damp site, so brewing options are available both as part of the A&S and for recreational purposes.
Mar 9-11, 2018 Known World A&S Hosted by our neighbors to the East, this event in Philadelphia features the best of the arts & sciences world from all over the SCA. The East Kingdom brewers are planning a brewing track, and I have assurances from them that unofficial brewing-related activities will also be taking place.
Mar 10-18, 2018 Gulf Wars A war, a wet site, and a host of A&S activities where brewers are welcome to participate. Also, Their Majesties have put out the call for AEthelmearc to have a strong presence in all aspects of the war... so it's the patriotic thing to do to participate.
April 7, 2018 Bacon & Brewing Bash V Region 2 Brewing Championship. Any brewer is welcome to enter and vie for the overall prize. The highest scoring entry from within Region 2 will be declared the Region 2 Champion.
April 14, 2018 Ice Dragon Brewing is a top-level category, with three subcategories: Beer/Ale, Wine/Mead, and Non-alcoholic.
May 17-20, 2018 War Practice Lots of opportunities to share and enjoy home brewed beverages... but primarily Countess Anna Leigh's Great Beverage Showcase and Social. This activity includes a grand beverage competition at the Mastery and Artisan levels as well as an Aspirant competition judged by populace vote at a social gathering. Both occur on the Friday night of War Practice weekend. Countess Anna Leigh promises a multitude of prizes great and small, and of course what better way to showcsae one's wares than to see them enjoyed by dozens... even hundreds... of the populace.

Activities:

Each regional representative is encouraged to host a minimum of one round table within their region each year as well as an annual regional brewing championship. Contact information for each region is on the Organization page.

From the Guild Head:

The Crowns' largesse coordinator is constantly seeking gifts that can be given by Their Majesties in gift baskets to foreign dignitaries, as tokens of appreciation to the populace, or as comestibles at social events. Small bottles of home brewed beverages make excellent largesse gifts. If you are so inclined, please contact Countess Anna Leigh through the SCA AEthelmearc page on Facebook.

Countess Anna Leigh is in charge of the A&S at War Practice coming up in May. The theme of the A&S is "14th Century" - any geographical area - numerous opportunities to teach, conduct round tables, or attend classes.

Comments, questions, opinions, and suggestions may be shared on either the Yahoo group, the Facebook page, or directly with Madoc or your regional representative.

Regional Representatives have begun posting guidelines for official Guild-sponsored competitions within their regions. Check it out at the Resource page.

The charter for the AEthelmearc Guild of Brewers, Vintners, and Meadhers has been signed. We are now charged with the promotion, study, and production of fermented beverages throughout the kingdom.
